Has one of the glass panes in your outdoor lamp cracked? Before buying a new fixture, check whether replacement parts are available for your model. In many classic outdoor lamps, individual glass panes can be replaced without replacing the other components of the fixture. Here’s when this is possible.

In classic outdoor lamps, individual glass panes may be fitted into the frame, basket, or other structural elements of the fixture. If only one pane is damaged and the remaining components of the lamp are in good condition, it is often possible to replace just the damaged pane.
The situation is different with lamps that have a one-piece shade, such as a globe, cylinder, or other complete cover. If the shade is damaged, the entire shade needs to be replaced with one suitable for the specific lamp model.
If a cracked or missing glass pane leaves the inside of the lamp exposed or allows moisture to enter, the lamp should not be used until the damage has been repaired.

Before ordering a replacement glass pane, check the condition of the other components of the lamp. What should you look for?
If only the glass pane is damaged, first check the area where it is mounted. The frame, basket, clips, or guides should not be cracked, bent, or otherwise damaged. If the lamp’s structure is in good condition, replacing the glass pane should be sufficient.
The replacement pane must be compatible with the mounting system used in the specific lamp. It is also worth checking the condition of the seals and other components responsible for maintaining the fixture’s watertightness.
If the lamp has been used for an extended period with a cracked or missing glass pane, it is also worth checking the inside of the fixture. Damaged glass may allow moisture to enter the fixture, potentially affecting the lamp holder, wiring, or other electrical components.
Important! Disconnect the power supply before inspecting the lamp or replacing any components. If you notice any damage to the electrical components, their inspection and repair should be carried out by a qualified professional.
It is best to choose a replacement part based on the exact model and series of the lamp. The glass pane should match the dimensions and mounting method used in the specific lamp model. You can find the model name or code in the product documentation, on the manufacturer’s website, or on the lamp itself. Then check whether the appropriate replacement glass panes or shades are available for that series.
A good example is the Retro Classic K 1018, which features six panes of sandblasted glass. If one of them is damaged, there is no need to replace the entire lamp. A replacement glass pane set is available for this model.

When choosing a replacement glass pane, consider not only its dimensions but also the type and thickness of the glass, the mounting method, and how well it fits with the components responsible for maintaining the lamp’s watertightness.
If the damage also affects the frame, the glass mounting, or other structural components, replacing the glass alone may not be sufficient. The same applies if the damaged lamp has been exposed to moisture for an extended period and the components inside the fixture have also been affected.
If several components are damaged, check which replacement parts are available for the specific model and whether they can be replaced. The scope of the repair depends on the type and extent of the damage and on the availability of suitable replacement parts.
